2. System validation
================================================== ============================
Splinter Cell Conviction will validate your system against minimum requirements.
If the system validation process detects that your configuration is not completely
suited to play the game, you will be notified of the problems found. If you don't
comply with all the requirements, the game may not run properly or you may
experience severe slowdowns.
Note: The system validation process will perform a full validation only once when
you run the game for the first time. You may want to force the system validation
to run again when you change your hardware configuration (i.e. new video cards or
gamepad). Open the ConvictionUserPC.ini file in the
"Drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ubisoft\Conviction" folder
and set the RunValidation value located in the [SystemValidation] section to True.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1. Game graphic options
The system validation process will try to determine the optimal graphic settings
based on your system performance. It will try to balance performance with visual
quality and set the appropriate graphic options settings. You can override these
settings in the options menu of the game.
================================================== ============================
3. Ubisoft Game Launcher
================================================== ============================
When the game is launched, you will be asked for your Ubi.com credentials. If
you don’t have an Ubi.com account, you will have the opportunity to create one
using the interface. Also you will be asked for your CD–KEY information before
being able to play the game for the first time.
The Ubisoft Game Launcher will synchronize your save games with the version
stored on the Ubisoft servers. That way you can recover your save games from
any computer simply by login in with your Ubi.com account.
================================================== ============================

sound card is properly installed (including drivers), make sure the default
playback device is set to "Speakers" in the Sound and Audio section of the
control panel.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.3. Installing DirectX
Splinter Cell Conviction requires DirectX runtime libraries from March
2009 or later to run properly. To get the latest version of DirectX, please visit:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx
DirectX is also provided on the install disc and automatically installed when you

the install disc to correct the problem.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.4. Windows Service Packs
It is recommended to install the latest service packs for all PC operating
systems.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.5. Hints
* It is _not_ advisable to install the game into the Windows folder (usually
C:\Windows), a subfolder of the Windows folder, nor the root of the system
drive (usually C:\).
* It is recommended to close all other running programs before installing the
game, to reduce the risk of software conflicts.
* If using Realtek High Definition Audio, Soundmax HD Audio, or nForce Audio,
you may experience sound anomalies.
To work around the problem, reduce the Hardware acceleration slider to 'Basic'
in the Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Audio tab->Advanced->Performance
tab.
* If you experience graphical corruption, make sure your graphics driver's
control panel is _not_ configured to override application settings.
* Vibration support is only available if using the Xbox 360 controller.

4.6. PC Known issues

5. Graphics, performance and troubleshooting FAQ
================================================== ============================
Q: The game runs slow on my PC. What can I do?
A: There are several things which may cause the game to run slower than
expected:
1) Some background applications may have a negative impact on the performance
of the game, thus it's preferable to close most of them to leave more
resources for the purpose of the game. For instance virus protection
software may monitor memory and hard drive access thus slowing down your
PC. Also, make sure that your PC is free from viruses and spyware.
2) Install latest graphics card drivers from your graphics card vendors web
page. Graphics card vendors constantly optimize and fix their drivers
thus it's good to keep your graphics card drivers up to date to maximize
your gaming experience.
3) Install the latest DirectX (www.microsoft.com) and drivers for other
peripherals (motherboard, sound card, etc.)
4) Defragment your hard drive to optimize your hard drive performance.
5) If you have an AGP graphics card, make sure that AGP is enabled and is
running in maximum speed.
6) Try to find a good balance between quality and performance with graphics
settings (resolution, shadow resolution, texture filtering, etc.) to
match your needs.
Q: Will I need to be online the whole time when I play the game? Also for single
player?
A: Yes. You need to have an active Internet connection to play the game, for all
game modes.
Q: Will I need to upgrade to a high speed broadband connection to play the game?
A: No. The game will run on even the lowest (A)DSL speeds.
Q: What will happen if I lose my Internet connection when I play the game?
A: If you lose your Internet connection the game will pause while it tries to
reconnect. When the Internet Connection can resume, you can continue the game
from where you left off or from the last save game.
Q: Why do I need to register with an Ubisoft account?
A: The synchronized saved games are personal so, to access them, you need to log
in. Even if your computer crashes you will be able to access your saved games
with your Ubisoft account and continue your game from another computer. The
services tied to your account will work regardless if you purchased the game
as a physical or digital copy from any distributor.
