Velvet Assassin does not register play time in Steam.
Just a few days ago I started playing 2009's Velvet Assassin. This game is tied to Steamworks, so it's basically a "Steam-only" title. This makes it even more perplexing as to why the fuck, running the game does not register play time in Steam, nor does the Steam in-game overlay work - at all. The answer is simple really. It's because both Steam, and the now-insolvent developer (Replay Studios) are fuckheads. A bunch of useless cockheads and thieves. Imbeciles. Rage aside, the solution is simple. Go to the install directory of the game, and rename the file called launcher.exe to launcher.ex (or whatever you want). Then, rename the file called replay.exe to launcher.exe, and you're set. From then on, the in-game play time is counted, and the Steam overlay works too.
The game is an stealth based action romp, not unlike the Splinter Cell series. It's basically Splinter Cell set in WWII with a female protagonist. I quite enjoyed it. Recommended.
In-game footage: British secret agent Violette Summer stabs and kills a Nazi soldier - with extreme prejudice.
