F. Known Gameplay Issues
Anti-virus software: Having anti-virus software enabled while playing Fable: The Lost Chapters can significantly degrade game load times and performance.
The game runs too slowly: You can increase game performance by lowering the game’s graphics settings. To change the settings
1. Select Options from the Front UI Menu or the In-Game UI.
2. Click Video Options.
3. Turn off Anti-aliasing and Vertical Sync.
4. Click the left arrow buttons associated with Texture, Mesh, Shadow, Resolution, and Effects Detail to decrease these settings.
Shadow Effects are quite GPU-intensive, so the largest single performance benefit will come from disabling shadows by moving this slider all the way to the left.
Effects Detail governs water translucency and ripple effects, the second most GPU-intensive effect. Move this slider all the way to the left to increase performance.
Mesh Detail includes draw distances and waving grass effects. Moving this slider all the way to the left will drastically reduce draw distances and remove the grasses, yielding a performance gain.
Texture Detail regulates the sharpness and detail level of all objects in the Fable world; a modest performance gain may be noticed by lowering the level of Texture detail.
Resolution reduction will also help performance. Decreasing resolution by one level will certainly help in-game performance. For example, if performance on your machine at 1024 x 768 is below your expectations, try reducing the resolution to 800 x 600.
Game Dialogue is inaudible, plays at a reduced volume, or is intermittent: If you are using headphones, or your speaker setup includes only two speakers, you might need to adjust your Windows speaker setting to improve audibility of in-game dialogue. Changing your Windows speaker setting
1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Choose Sound and Audio Device Properties, and then click Advanced.
4. Choose Speaker Setup, and change the setting to Desktop Stereo Speakers.
Spellcasting with the Arrows keyboard scheme: The manual indicates that when you use the mouse for spellcasting under the Arrows keyboard scheme, you should hold down the Right Shift key. The correct procedure is to hold down the Right Ctrl key.
Cannot hear in-game dialogue: If you cannot hear the in-game dialogue, it might be because the in-game music is too loud. You can lower the music volume and/or increase the dialogue volume. To adjust the music or dialogue volume
1. Press Esc to display the In-Game menu.
2. Click Options, and then click Audio Options.
3. Click the left arrow button associated with Music Volume to move its slider to the left, thus lowering the music volume.
4. Click the right arrow button associated with Dialogue Volume to move its slider to the right, thus increasing the dialogue volume.
Note: You can also turn on subtitles from the Options menu.
If you press Alt+Tab to switch from the game to Windows or another application, the mouse cursor may disappear: To restore the mouse cursor, press the Windows key or press Alt+Tab to return to the game. You can then press the Windows key to minimize the game and return to the desktop.
Videos load slowly: If you are running Windows Media Player 8 instead of the latest version, there might be an initial delay before the video loads. To address this issue, update to the latest version of Window Media Player, which can be found at www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia.
Brightness might reset to default settings if the user presses Alt+Tab to leave and return to the game: If you have changed the Brightness setting from its default setting and press Alt+Tab to leave and return to the game, the brightness might change back to its initial setting. To readjust brightness
1. Press Esc to display the In-game menu.
2. Click Options.
3. Click Video Options and change the setting as desired.
G. Known Hardware Issues
For some monitors, certain resolutions might lead to display problems: Fable: The Lost Chapters provides support for a wide range of resolution settings, based on what your video card supports, but your monitor might not support all of these resolutions. Any display problems encountered during gameplay might be due to your display configuration (video card, monitor, drivers, and so on). We recommend that you try out various resolutions in-game. This will allow you to revert to another setting if your monitor does not support a chosen resolution. Check your monitor documentation or monitor manufacturer web site for information on your monitor’s native resolution.
LCD monitors provide poor image quality at non-native resolutions: Check your monitor documentation or monitor manufacturer web site for information on your monitor’s native resolution.
For some video cards with 64MB of memory or more, an error message might appear stating that your video card is below minimum requirements: Your card might actually have 64 MB of memory, but it does not provide vertex and pixel shader support, which the game requires. Check your video card documentation or card manufacturer web site for information on your card’s capabilities.
Fable will not launch on Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound cards with driver version 5.12.0001.0129: Update to a newer driver version from www.creative.com.
