2. Installation
----------------
NOTE: Need for Speed™ The Run will only install and run on machines installed with Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) or Windows 7 (Service Pack 1) and all available updates for your operating system from Windows Update.
To install from the Need for Speed™ The Run Disc:
1. Start your machine and wait for the Windows Vista/Windows 7 operating system to load.
2. Place the Need For Speed™ The Run disc 1 DVD in the DVD drive.
3. Windows will automatically detect the DVD and launch the autorun options, from which the user can select to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Need for Speed™ The Run. Origin will be installed as part of the installation process. If needed, DirectX will be installed or upgraded during the game installation.
4. You will be prompted to log on to Origin as part of the installation. You can create a new account, or to log on with an existing account.
5. The installer will prompt for the CD Key which is provided either in your confirmation email, your game manual/packaging, or game card.
6. Need For Speed™ The Run will be added to the Start menu, Games Explorer, Windows Desktop and Origin. To access the game:
• from the Start menu, go to All Programs/Games/Need for Speed™ The Run.
• from Origin, start Origin and go to MY GAMES.
• from the Games Explorer, go to All Programs/Games/Games Explorer
• from the shortcut available on the Windows Desktop
Note: If the Auto insert notification feature has been disabled or the DVD is not recognized, run AutoRun.exe from the root directory of the DVD to begin the installation program.

Please contact the digital retailer through whom you purchased this game for instructions on how to install the game or how to download and reinstall another copy of the game.

For your convenience, we have included DirectX redistributable (2010 June) in the Need For Speed™ The Run installation package.

a) Installing DirectX 11 manually
If you would like to install it manually, browse to the Need for Speed™ The Run installation package folder, open the "\DirectX" folder and click the on DXSETUP.exe
b) DirectX 11 and supported hardware
It is highly recommended that you ensure that your computer's components are utilizing the most recent DirectX 11 compatible software drivers. Please consult your card manufacturer for their newest drivers.

4. Uninstall

To uninstall Need For Speed™ The Run, click on the Start menu and select Control Panel (Vista/Win 7). Now select Programs and Features (Vista/Win 7). Scroll down the list until you see Need for Speed™ The Run, select it and click on Uninstall (Vista/Win 7) to uninstall.

5. Default Graphics settings

The first time Need For Speed™ The Run is started, a system check is performed and default levels are set for the options on the Graphics menu. These default levels are set to provide the best game play experience possible depending on the hardware detected in your system.

6. Peripherals

The following peripherals are compatible with Need For Speed™ The Run:
• Microsoft Windows compatible keyboard
• Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
Please use the control options in the gameplay settings menu to configure your input device. Always ensure the latest manufacturer drivers are installed for your device. Although not officially supported, most modern Windows compatible gamepads and wheels should work, but the user must manually assign the controls.

8. Save Games

To delete save games files, you will have to navigate to the following folder:
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\NFSTR\Settings. Saved games for other users on your computer are kept in their respective username folder.
To delete saved screenshots, you will have to navigate to the following folder:
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\NFSTR\Screenshots

9. Troubleshooting
---------------------
Computer hardware manufacturers are constantly updating their driver software so that their hardware can play the latest software programs with the best possible performance. If your system is not using the latest drivers please consider obtaining an updated driver. Doing this may also give you benefits such as increased performance, the elimination of a technical problem and new component features.
Need For Speed™ The Run runs both in full screen mode and in window mode.
If the game audio sounds unbalanced, please ensure that any audio enhancements available to your sound card are disabled.
ATI Catalyst Control Centre users who have deselected the Anti-Aliasing option "Use Application Settings" should disable Anti-Aliasing in the Need for Speed™ The Run Video settings.
It is highly recommended that you ensure that your computer's components are utilizing the most recent DirectX 11 compatible software drivers. Please consult your card manufacturer for their newest drivers.
