2. Installation
---------------
NOTE: Battlefield 3™ will only install and run on machines installed with Windows Vista (SP2) or Windows 7 and all available updates for your operating system from Windows Update.

To install from the Battlefield 3™ DVDs:
1. Start your machine and wait for the Windows Vista/Windows 7 operating system to load. If you are reading this file, steps 1 and 2 are most likely completed already.

2. Place the Battlefield 3™ disc 1 DVD in the DVD drive.

3. Windows will automatically detect the DVD and launch the autorun options, from which the user can select to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Battlefield 3™. Origin will be installed as part of the installation process.
If needed, DirectX will be installed or upgraded during the game installation.

4. You will be prompted to log on to Origin as part of the installation. You can create a new account, or to log on with an existing account.

5. The installer will prompt for the CD Key which is provided either in your game manual/packaging, your game card or in your confirmation email.

6. It is optional to install Punkbuster. For online play we strongly recommend installing Punkbuster since it’s required in order to join Punkbuster enabled servers. Only Punkbuster enabled servers will report your stats, so in order to progress in ranks, receive unlocks and gain stats you will need to have Punkbuster running and play on Punkbuster enabled servers.

7. Battlefield 3™ will be added to the Start menu, Games Explorer and Origin. To access the game:
• from the Start menu, go to All Programs/Games/Battlefield 3™.
• from Origin, start Origin and go to MY GAMES.
• from the web, go to http://battlelog.battlefield.com in your web browser.
• from the Games Explorer, go to All Programs/Games/Games Explorer

8. Launching the game executable will take you to the Battlelog web site. Log in with the Origin account that you used in step 4 to start playing Battlefield 3™. Battlelog works as Battlefield 3™s main menu. You can access all features of the game from here.

Note: If the Auto insert notification feature has been disabled or the DVD is not recognized, run AutoRun.exe from the root directory of the DVD to begin the installation program.

For Battlefield 3™ Digital Download installation:
Please contact the digital retailer through whom you purchased this game for instructions on how to install the game or how to download and reinstall another copy of the game.

Note: If you’d like additional information about Battlefield 3™ as well as tips please visit http://www.battlefield.com, http://www.ea.com or http://www.origin.com.

If you would like to install it manually, browse to the Battlefield 3™ installation package folder, open the "\DirectX" folder and run DXSETUP.exe

b) DirectX 11 and supported hardware
It is highly recommended that you ensure that your computer's components are utilizing the most recent DirectX 11 compatible software drivers. Please consult your card manufacturer for their newest drivers.

----------------------------
5. Default Graphics settings
----------------------------
The first time Battlefield 3™ is started, a system check is performed and default levels are set for the options on the Graphics menu. These default levels are set to provide the best game play experience possible depending on the hardware detected in your system.

--------------
6. Peripherals
--------------
The following peripherals are compatible with Battlefield 3™:
Microsoft Windows compatible keyboard and mouse.

------------------
7. Troubleshooting
------------------
Computer hardware manufacturers are constantly updating their driver software so that their hardware can play the latest software programs with the best possible performance. If your system is not using the latest drivers please consider obtaining an updated driver. Doing this may also give you benefits such as increased performance, the elimination of a technical problem and new component features.

Battlefield 3™ runs both in full screen mode and in window mode.

If the game audio sounds unbalanced, please ensure that any audio enhancements available to your sound card are disabled.

ATI Catalyst Control Centre users who have deselected the Anti-Aliasing option "Use Application Settings" should disable Anti-Aliasing in the Battlefield 3™ Video settings.

It is highly recommended that you ensure that your computer's components are utilizing the most recent DirectX 11 compatible software drivers. Please consult your card manufacturer for their newest drivers.
