If it detects that no Steam Client is installed, it will automatically begin an installation of the Client. If it detects an older version of the Steam Client the installer will update that version to the most current.

Following the Steam Client installation and/or update, the installer will prompt you for your Steam Account login information. If you do not already have a Steam Account, you will create an account at this time.

For further information on Steam, please see their Support page at https://support.steampowered.com/ or their New Users page at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7141-OPGX-5121

1.4 DIRECTX® DETECTION AND INSTALLATION

The Homefront installer will check your computer for the currently installed version of DirectX®. If it detects an older version of DirectX®, it will install DirectX® 9.0c and 10 automatically. The installation of DirectX® will not harm your DirectX® configuration. Homefront requires DirectX® to install and play.

================================================== ===================
2) TROUBLESHOOTING
================================================== ===================

2.1 INSTALLER/PATCH ISSUES

A. Interference from Anti-Virus Programs
It is recommended that any anti-virus programs be disabled when attempting to install Homefront. Anti-virus software can often interfere and corrupt the installation process of new software.

B. Modifications
Any modifications to Homefront may result in the inability to patch successfully. Before applying any modifications we suggest backing up the affected files and replacing them before applying any patch. Not doing so may result in the need to re-install the game.

C. Install
The installation of the game is made up of two parts. The first installer installs the game manual and third party installers. The second installer utilizes the Steam installer to install the game. If the install process is interrupted, additional steps may be required to successfully install the game and its contents. The install process consists of the following.
1. Installation of the Game Manual and miscellaneous files.
2. Installation of DirectX.
3. Installation of Steam if not already present.
4. Connection to Steam for authentication, updates, and additional installs if necessary.
5. Installation of the game through Steam.
D. Uninstall
Uninstalling Homefront is done through Steam via the Delete Local Content option. Note that this will only uninstall the game - any additional third party software will need to be removed via the Add/Remove feature (Windows XP) or the Programs and Features panel (Vista & Windows 7).

2.2 VIDEO ISSUES

A. Latest drivers required
For best performance and video quality, please make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card when running Homefront. If you have an ATI or NVIDIA video card, you can find drivers on their websites.
http://ati.amd.com/
Driver: Catalyst 10.12 or newer

http://www.nvidia.com/
Driver: ForceWare Graphics Driver Version 266.58 or newer
Preliminary tests with out-of-date ATI drivers have shown some graphic corruption while playing Homefront. Upgrading to the latest ATI drivers can solve the problem for most users.

Preliminary tests with out-of-date NVIDIA drivers have shown lower performance and missing objects. Upgrading to the latest NVIDIA drivers can solve the problem for most users.

2.3 SOUND ISSUES

A. Latest drivers required
Please make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card when running Homefront.

B. (This applies to XP only) The sound stutters while playing
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card. If stuttering persists, try reducing Hardware Acceleration. From your Windows® desktop, click Start, then Run, type "dxdiag", then press Enter. This brings up the "DirectX® Diagnostic Tool". Click the Sound tab and try reducing the "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" slider.

C. Headphones
Plugging in headphones while the game is running does not work. Please be sure to start the game with headphones plugged in as the game may not detect headphones plugged in after the game has started.

2.4 OPERATING SYSTEM-SPECIFIC ISSUES

A. Administrator Privileges
You must have Administrator privileges to properly install the game on Windows® XP and Vista® and Windows 7®. You do not, however, require Administrator privileges to play the game after it has been installed. For information on how to change your user settings to obtain Administrator privileges, please refer to your Windows® documentation, or click the Start button and select "Help and Support".

3. You acknowledge that the Software in source code form remains a confidential trade secret of THQ. You agree not to modify or attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation. You further acknowledge that the Software contains functions for collecting and tracking information related to Your use of the Software. THQ reserves the right to compile, save and use such information within the scope of THQ’s business activities, and analyze any and all of Your data (online registration data, stats, etc.). 6. You shall not modify the Software or merge the Software into another computer Program (except to the extent the Software is made to operate within a computer operating system and in connection with other computer program) or create derivative works based upon the Software.

7. The Software may not be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported into (or to a national or resident of) any country to which the U.S. has embargoed goods or to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Commerce Department's Table of Deny Orders. If You do not meet these criteria or are not sure, do not install the Software and destroy any copies in Your possession. If You live in such a country, no license is granted hereunder.

8. You are responsible for assessing Your own computer and the results to be obtained therefrom. YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT USE OF THE SOFTWARE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS," "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, UNLESS SUCH WARRANTIES ARE LEGALLY INCAPABLE OF EXCLUSION. THQ AND ITS LICENSORS DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, AND THOSE ARISING FROM A COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE, REGARDING THE SOFTWARE. THQ AND ITS LICENSORS ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGES SUFFERED BY YOU, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LOSS OF DATA, ITEMS OR OTHER MATERIALS FROM ERRORS OR OTHER MALFUNCTIONS CAUSED BY THQ, ITS LICENSORS, LICENSEE AND/OR SUBCONTRACTORS, OR BY YOUR OR ANY OTHER PARTICIPANT'S OWN ERRORS AND/OR OMISSIONS. THQ and its licensors make no warranty with respect to any related software or hardware used or provided by THQ in connection with the Software except as may be expressly set forth above.

9. LIMITED DVD-ROM WARRANTY: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained herein, and solely with respect to Software distributed on DVD-ROM, THQ warrants to the original consumer purchaser of this Software on DVD-ROM that the recording medium on which the Software is recorded will be free from defects in material and workmanship for 90 days from the date of purchase. If the recording medium is found defective within 90 days of original purchase, THQ agrees to replace, free of charge, any product discovered to be defective within such period upon its receipt of the product, postage paid, with proof of the date of purchase, as long as the Software is still being manufactured by THQ. In the event that the Software is no longer available, THQ retains the right to substitute a similar Software of equal or greater value. This warranty is limited to the recording medium containing the Software as originally provided by THQ and is not applicable to normal wear and tear. THQ reserves the right, at its own expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by You hereunder, and in such event, You shall have no further obligation to provide indemnification for such matter.

In such event, You must destroy all copies of this Software and all of its component parts.

15. ONLINE. THQ makes no guarantees regarding the availability of online play, and may modify or discontinue online service in its discretion without notice, including, for example, ceasing online service for economic reasons due to a limited number of players continuing to make use of the service over time. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable, and such decision shall not affect the enforceability of: (i) such provision under other circumstances, or (ii) the remaining provisions hereof under all circumstances. THQ's failure to enforce at any time any of the provisions of this Agreement shall in no way be construed to be a present or future waiver of such provisions, nor in any way affect the right of any party to enforce each and every such provision thereafter. The express waiver by THQ of any provision, condition or requirement of this Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of any future obligation to comply with such provision, condition or requirement. Notwithstanding anything else in this Agreement, no default, delay or failure to perform on the part of THQ shall be considered a breach of this Agreement if such default, delay or failure to perform is shown to be due to causes beyond the reasonable control of THQ.
