IV: CALL OF JUAREZ SAFE MODE

The safe mode should be used when the game won't run on your machine - it alters the default settings to lower settings, this will then allow you to boot up the game and tweak the options for your machine.

V: GAME PERFORMANCE

If the framerate of your game seems to be low, try lowering some of the video and audio settings to rectify the problem. Make sure that you closed all unnecessary programs running in background before running the game. If you are using onboard sound card, please check if lowering sound quality will help improve the framerate. Make sure you have the latest video/audio/motherboard drivers installed on your computer.

VI: KNOWN COMPATIBILITY ISSUES

Please note that video cards that do not support hardware pixel shaders version 2.0 or better do not fully meet the game's minimum spec and will therefore suffer performance issues.
In all cases check you have installed the latest drivers from your hardware manufacturer's website.
If after turning on EAX option in the game audio setting you are not able to hear some sounds we recommend to install newest sound drivers or turning EAX option off (this concerns onboard sound cards mostly).
If you have noticed that there is no fog in the game please check if installation of different video card drivers will help to solve this problem.

VII: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I can't install the game.
A: Make sure that you closed all unnecessary programs running in background (i.e. some anti-virus programs can preclude proper game installation).
A: Try to copy all files from CD1, CD2 and CD3 (*) / DVD (**) to one directory on your hard disk, and after this run setup.exe from your HDD.

Q: Why is an error message displayed while executing the game?
A: Make sure there is DirectX 9.0c or newer installed on your computer. If not, install DirectX from the Call of Juarez CD3 (*) / DVD (**) (folder \support\DirectX\).
A: Make sure you have the latest video drivers on your computer. They are usually available for download from the vendor's website. Check the following sites for Video card drivers:
www.ati.com for ATI drivers (we recommend Catalyst 6.5 or higher)
www.nvidia.com for nVidia drivers (we recommend ForceWare 84.21 or higher)
A: Check the BIOS settings if the AGP Fast Write Control is set to Disabled and the Graphics Aperture Size is set to Minimum 64MB.
A: Make sure that you closed all unnecessary programs running in background.

Q. I can hear actor voices and some environment sounds but I don't hear gun shots.
A: If you are using 4.1 or better speaker system please check if it is set properly in your sound card properties. You may also try changing speaker system to 2/2.1 and then check out if you hear all sounds.
A: If after turning on EAX option in the game audio setting you are not able to hear some sounds we recommend to install newest sound drivers or turning EAX option off (this concerns onboard sound cards mostly).
Q: I can't join Internet games and people can't join my Internet server.
A: Please check if after clicking on "update list" and "refresh list" button next to server list, you are able to join one of the existing Call of Juarez MP servers.
A: You will need to check that your firewall (if you're using one) allows Call of Juarez access through it (please remember that Windows XP has built-in firewall). Ports needed to be opened are from 26000 to 26200, although this can be set in the server settings section of the game.
A: If you are using two network interfaces (i.e. one for LAN card and second as modem for Internet connection) disable the one not responsible for Internet connection in order to connect to master server and join Internet games.
A: Please remember that game version of both server and client must be the same in order to accomplish connection. Green icon before server name tells you that you will be able to connect to this server.
A: Please remember that server might be running maps you do not have - in this case you will not be able to connect to that server.

Q: My multiplayer server is too slow when hosting a MP game.
A: General rule of thumb for hosting faster multiplayer games is that the better the computer you are hosting it on, the better the game runs. Another alternative for running faster multiplayer games is to use the dedicated server function within the game. This allows you to host a game for others to play, but you are not able to play on this machine, only host the game. Another thing restricting speed of multiplayer games is the connection bandwidth you are using to play the game, the faster the connection the better the game works.

Q: How can I run Call of Juarez dedicated internet server?
A: Best way to create Call of Juarez dedicated internet server is to run the game, choose multiplayer game, setup all options and then exit the game and run it by clicking "Run Call of Juarez dedicated internet server" icon from Start menu (server will start with latest options).
